City Seeking Candidates for Director of Police Advisory and Review Committee

Posted: 02/09/2016
The City’s Community Relations Department is seeking candidates for the position of Police Advisory and Review Committee (PARC) Executive Director.

PARC’s former Executive Director, Dr. Avice E. Reid, was recently promoted to serve as the City of Knoxville’s Senior Director of Community Relations, replacing Thomas “Tank” Strickland, who retired at the end of January.

The deadline for applying for the PARC director position is Friday, Feb. 19, 2016.

PARC was created in 1998, and its mission is to strengthen the relationship between the Knoxville Police Department and the citizens it serves by performing an independent review of KPD actions.

As part of that role, the committee reviews incidents following the conclusion of KPD Internal Affairs investigations in response to citizen complaints about police actions.

“We are looking for a person who can step into a position that can sometimes be difficult and in a highly-charged atmosphere,” Reid said. “The candidate must be passionate about building relationships, comfortable in seeking the truth at all costs, and engaged in the community.”

Among the requirements of the position, the PARC Executive Director must have professional work experience in community relations or community organization work and/or experience in community communications and mediation; must be able to be bonded as a notary public; and preferably possess a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in business management, public/business administration, criminal justice or a related field.

A job description, job requirements and online application are available on the City’s website at: www.knoxvilletn.gov/employment. For more information or assistance with the application entry, contact Civil Service at 865-215-2106.
