City Hosting Lifeguard Training Courses

Posted: 03/09/2016
The City of Knoxville Parks and Recreation Department will host spring season American Red Cross lifeguard training courses, with the first full course taking place this week. Participants must be 15 years old by the end class. Successful completion of the training will increase the potential of being hired by the City for summer lifeguard positions.

Lifeguard training courses will be held the following dates: March 10-13, April 21-24, and May 12-15.

Students who complete the course will receive American Red Cross certifications in lifeguarding, standard First Aid, CPR for the professional rescuer, and AED. Students must attend all class dates in order to be eligible for certification.

The fee is $140 to register for the training in addition to a $35 fee for the American Red Cross for certification. Registration deadline is two days before the training begins or until the class is full.

The four-day course is structured around the following schedule:

• Thursdays and Fridays, 6-9 p.m.
• Saturdays, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
• Sundays, noon-6 p.m.

Attendance is required for the full time each day. A pre-test will be held for those interested to assist in their preparation for the full lifeguard training course. The instructor will contact students after they are registered regarding pre-testing.

The City’s lifeguard training review for those selected to work as a City of Knoxville lifeguard will be held May 16-18. The hours are Monday and Tuesday, 6-9 p.m., and Wednesday, 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Attendance is required for the full time each day.

Registration is now available online at http://registration.knoxvilletn.gov or by calling 865-215-4311 for assistance. Space is limited, so please register early. For further information, please contact Randy Love at 865-919-9927 or [email protected]
