Urban Agriculture Zoning Changes Proposed

Posted: 02/03/2015
The City's Office of Sustainability has been working on changes to our zoning code to encourage a broader range of urban agriculture in Knoxville. The zoning code has not kept pace with changes in the local food economy. The current code can be unclear in defining which urban agriculture practices are allowed, and in some cases, is unnecessarily restrictive. So the Office of Sustainability has developed proposed amendments to remove potential barriers to food production on private property. By removing these barriers, the City of Knoxville and community partners can better develop programs that increase access to healthy, local food.

The amendments have been sent to the Metropolitan Planning Commission for consideration.
