Posted: 09/30/2015
The Black Lillies will celebrate the release of the local Americana band’s new album “Hard to Please” with a free show on Friday, Oct. 2, on Market Square. The show will begin at 5 p.m. with sets by Dirty Guv’nahs spin-off Electric Darling and Rolling Stone country “act to watch” Margo and the Pricetags.

Anticipate temporary no-parking zones starting at 3 p.m. on Market Street, Union Avenue and Wall Avenue, as well as these temporary road closures on Friday:
• Wall Avenue, between Gay and Walnut streets, 4-11 p.m.
• Market Street, between Union and Clinch avenues, 5-10 p.m.
• Union Avenue, between Walnut and Gay streets, 5-10 p.m.

Two other special events and the use of a crane to heft an air-conditioning unit onto a rooftop will also close some streets this weekend:

Market Square Farmers’ Market

Standard road closures for the weekly Saturday market will be in place. Temporary no-parking zones will begin at 5 a.m. on Market Street and Union Avenue. Road closures will begin at 6:45 a.m. and will end at 3 p.m. on these streets:

The Sunday, Oct. 4, walk will begin at 3 p.m. and end at World’s Fair Park. A rolling closure will follow this route: Clinch Avenue to 16th Street, 16th to Todd Helton Boulevard, Todd Helton to Lake Loudoun Boulevard, Lake Loudoun to Neyland Drive, Neyland to the greenway.

Crane on Gay Street

South Gay Street between Wall and Union avenues will be closed from 6 a.m. to noon on Sunday, Oct. 4, as a crane places an air-conditioning unit on the roof of the former J.C. Penney building. Access to the entrance and sidewalk near Mast General Store will be open, as will be the areas around the Phoenix building. There will be a temporary no-parking zone on Gay Street, starting at 3 a.m.
