Visit Knoxville Announces Free Access to Neyland Drive for Boomsday

Posted: 07/25/2014
Visit Knoxville announced on Friday that Neyland Drive, traditionally the main viewing area for Boomsday, will be open free to the public for Boomsday 2014.

Tickets will be required for the Rodney Atkins concert, which will now take place at 10 p.m. inside Thompson Boling Arena after the fireworks. The change was made to remain in full compliance with state law regarding access to Neyland Drive.

"Visit Knoxville continues to have a vision for Boomsday as we move into the future," says Visit Knoxville President Kim Bumpas. "We will build on what we've learned this year to enhance the event for guests, vendors and sponsors for years to come."

The Rodney Atkins concert will be the first ever Boomsday After Party. The cost of admission is $20. Visit Knoxville will also be working on preferred viewing areas for the fireworks along Neyland, but space is limited. "The after party is a great way to wait out the traffic and hear some great music," states Bumpas. "We are making options available to those that literally 'bought in' to the new ticket concept." All other groups, including Fairview Union, Sweetwater Rain and Native Run will perform on stages in the free area along Neyland Drive. Visit Knoxville is working out details for 2015 with the Black Lillies.

Boomsday is the largest Labor Day weekend fireworks show in the country.
