Meeting Offers Ideas for 700 Block of South Gay Streetscapes Plan

Posted: 04/22/2014
April 22, 2014 - About 30 people offered their ideas and heard details Tuesday evening about the Streetscapes project to start in May 2015 on the 700 block of South Gay Street.

The block has not been upgraded in 20 years, and street medallions and sidewalks are in disrepair.

The Streetscapes work will include repairing sidewalks, planting trees, converting the street surface to concrete and rebuilding two medallions at Church and Clinch avenues, plus adding a new medallion at Cumberland Avenue.

The improvements will be consistent with other Streetscape work that's been done in other blocks of Gay Street, said Downtown Coordinator Rick Emmett,

The project also includes features to enhance sustainability. As one example, permeable pavers will be installed, which - along with good soil being added - will help the new trees to do well.
