KUB Power Restoration Update

Posted: 06/11/2014
June 11, 2014 - The safety of KUB workers and the public remains the focus as crews continue working to restore power following Tuesday evening's storms. All crews are working as quickly and safely as possible, given the hazards of downed lines and trees that can conduct electricity.

Large numbers of trees, limbs, and wires were on the ground in certain areas following the storm. KUB continues to advise customers that lines could be energized, and they should stay well away from any downed lines. Avoid any trees or limbs on the ground as they may be in contact with those lines, as well.

As of 11:30 a.m., approximately 1,400 customers are without power. At the height of the storm,
approximately 33,000 customers were without power.

Crews continue to work non-stop in rotating shifts to restore power to all customers. Additional contract crews from outside the KUB service area were called in to assist with power restoration. KUB expects a total of 60-plus crews to be in the field focusing on restoration during the day Wednesday.

Outages remain scattered throughout KUB's service area. The many remaining jobs are mostly service lines and transformers that will restore power to only small numbers of customers at a time. Given that, KUB still anticipates that this outage and restoration effort will be a multi-day event and encourages customers to plan accordingly.

Restoration Status Update:
