Knoxville Food Week Oct. 18-26

October 13, 2014 - Food Week is a nationwide celebration and movement for healthy, affordable and sustainable food.

The Knoxville-Knox County Food Policy Council - along with Second Harvest Food Bank, Knoxville Botanical Gardens, Abbey Fields and Beardsley Community Farm - has put together a series of events in honor of the celebration:

Saturday, Oct. 18: Pellissippi State Edible School Yard at Pond Gap School, 1401 Hollywood Road - 8-11 a.m.; work day

Saturday, Oct. 18: CAC Mobile Meals, 2247 Western Ave. - 9 a.m.-noon; packing 10,000 meals for homebound seniors, with Bearden High School football team

Monday, Oct. 20: Beardsley Community Farm, 1719 Reynolds St. - 10 am - 3 p.m; opening ceremony, work day

Tuesday, Oct. 21: Second Harvest Food Bank of East Tennessee, 136 Harvest Lane, Maryville - 9 a.m.-noon and 1-4 p.m.; food bank preparation

Wednesday, Oct. 22: Knoxville Botanical Gardens, 2743 Wimpole Ave. - 9 a.m.-noon and 1-4 p.m.; work day

Thursday, Oct. 23: Second Harvest, 136 Harvest Lane, Maryville - 9 a.m.-noon and 1-4 p.m.; food bank preparation

Thursday, Oct. 23: Lonsdale Elementary School, 1317 Louisiana Ave. - 5 p.m.; Sysco and UT Culinary will host a "Chopped" competition to give healthy snack ideas to Lonsdale Elementary kids

Friday, Oct. 24: Knoxville Botanical Gardens, 2743 Wimpole Ave. - 6:30 p.m.; community dinner and Food Day celebration

Saturday, Oct. 25: Abbey Fields, 1400 Washington Ave. - 10 a.m.-1 p.m.; walking tour, festival

Sunday, Oct. 26: Beardsley Community Farm, 1719 Reynolds St. - 1-5 p.m.; Harvest Festival
