Drain Repair to Close Lane on Lyons View Pike

Posted: 08/06/2014
Road ClosuresAugust 6, 2014 - This week, the City of Knoxville's Public Service Department is working to replace 100 feet of antiquated pipe and a "catch box" underneath Lyons View Pike. But the work will close a lane in the 5400 block of the pike from 8:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. over the next few days.

Public Works Deputy Director Chad Weth said the old pipes had become badly clogged and are no longer draining water, which has caused flooding to back up over parts of Lyons View Pike during heavy rains and also has caused intermittent property damage. The new pipes should alleviate the flooding, Weth said.

When a lane is closed, a traffic-control flag team will be directing motorists. At least one lane will remain open at all times.

The work is being done quickly for two reasons, Weth said – to lessen the inconvenience to motorists, and to finish the job and have the road fully reopened before the Aug. 11 start of school in Knox County.
