The Tennessee Department of Transportation will be conducting a regular inspection of the Gay Street Bridge on Saturday, June 18, beginning at 6:30 a.m.
The bridge will remain open during the inspection but there will be flag crews from the City of Knoxville's Traffic Engineering Department directing traffic and there will be some delays.
The inspection is anticipated to take at least most of the day Saturday and could continue into Sunday. Drivers are encouraged to take advantage of the detour along the South Knoxville Bridge and James White Parkway.
The City of Knoxville and TDOT are aware this is an inconvenience to motorists and scheduled the work on the weekend in an effort to limit any delays.
