City to Hold Doggie Dip at Inskip Pool

Posted: 09/03/2010
For the first time ever, the originators of the dog paddle will hit the waters of Inskip Pool for the "Doggie Dip" hosted by the City of Knoxville on Saturday, September 11, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Inskip Pool, located at 4024 Bruhin Road, was closed to human swimmers on Labor Day. Dog owners, however, can bring their pooches for swim this Saturday, before the pool gates are closed for the year.

"This is something fun that we've wanted to provide to the community for a while," said Joe Walsh, Director of Knoxville Parks and Recreation. "We're happy to provide fun events that get people outdoors to enjoy some family fun. This happens to be an event where the entire family is invited including the family pet."

Cost is $5 per dog with a maximum of two dogs per owner with no charge for the owner attending. If additional family members or friends want to join the event, the cost is $2 per person. All proceeds will go toward building future dog parks in Knoxville. There is also a raffle and auction in which event participants can partake.

The Young Williams Animal Center, several veterinarians, various rescue groups and even a canine treat specialist will host booths at the event.

Aquatics professionals will be on site to ensure safety, including a lifeguard certified in pet first aid and mouth-to-snout CPR.

Leashes and all up-to-date vaccinations and tags are required for all dogs. Doggie Dip registration forms must be filled out and submitted for each dog.

To acquire a registration form and for all other information, please see form links above, e-mail [email protected], or call 865-215-1406. Registration forms will also be available at the pool during Saturday's event.
