Outdoor Movies Turn Ghoulish Friday

Posted: 10/14/2008
Knox County Public Library’s popular outdoor movie series comes to a close this Friday on Market Square with a double bill. Starting around 7:15, Ghostbusters (1984, PG) lights up the screen immediately followed by Beetle Juice (1989, PG) at approximately 9 p.m.

Ghostbusters is the story of three unusual scientists who lose their comfortable positions at a university in New York City—their specialties? Paranormal experiments. The three decide to team up and start a business trapping ghosts, spirits and poltergeists and other supernatural disturbances. It all goes well until they stumble upon a gateway to another dimension and have to save the city from evil forces.

In Beetle Juice, a recently deceased couple hates the new family moving into their house, but they find they’re just not scary enough as ghosts to send the family packing. They turn to Beetle Juice, a "bio-exorcist" to scare away their new company.

This year’s movie series was split between World’s Fair Park and Market Square with a total of six events. Audiences ranged from 500 to 1,000 per night with Babe garnering the biggest crowd of the season. The family-friendly movies were selected from a public vote. The Library produces the movies series to promote its broad collection of movies and music. For more information, go to www.knoxlib.org
