Dogwood Arts Festival this Month

Posted: 04/08/2008
More than 60 local and regional artists, and a variety of live performers will gather during the Festival on Market Square, a popular attraction of the 2008 Dogwood Arts Festival, presented by ORNL Federal Credit Union.

From April 11 and 12, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., and April 13, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., the Festival on Market Square will open and is free to the public.

Throughout the event, art enthusiasts can purchase paintings, pottery, glass, jewelry, woodwork, and metal art while enjoying live performances by country, string, blues, and folk bands on two stages.

Dogwood Arts Festival President Ken Knight says the Festival on Market Square is helping to make Knoxville a destination art city.

"The three-day weekend gives our local and regional artists a chance to showcase their creations to thousands of people," Knight says. "All of the art is handmade and festival goers will also have the opportunity to receive hands-on demonstrations in making pottery, jewelry, and sidewalk art."

Free attractions assembled for the Festival on Market Square include craft demonstrations by the Oak Ridge Arts Center.

Closing out the Festival on Market Square on Sunday, April 13, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. will be the always popular Bluegrass and Americana on the Square show, sponsored by WDVX radio station. The free concert will feature four of the region's top bluegrass and roots music acts.

Throughout the festival food and refreshments will be available from a variety of food vendors. Wine and beer may also be purchased April 11 and 12 and the afternoon of April 13.
