Traffic Control Plans Announced For UT Home Opener

Posted: 09/07/2007
Knoxville Police Department Captain Gordon Catlett today announced traffic control plans for the first home football game for the University of Tennessee. Kickoff for the game is schedule for 7:00 p.m.

Captain Catlett said several adjustments to the traffic control plan have been made due to the closure of the James White Parkway (JWP). The closure of JWP will affect fans traveling to Neyland Stadium from both west and east of the stadium.

Captain Catlett said, "If you plan to park in the Knoxville Civic Coliseum parking garage you will need to use Hall of Fame Drive to reach your destination. If you are using the G10 parking garage and are arriving from the east side of Knoxville, you will also need to use Hall of Fame Drive. If you are arriving from the west side of Knoxville, you will need to utilize Alcoa Highway and Neyland Drive to reach the G10 parking garage.

Parking on the UT campus will be restricted to visitors with parking permits only. No parking will be allowed along Neyland Drive. Motorists parking in an unauthorized location may have their vehicle towed.

After the game, fans that normally utilize Neyland Drive to reach the interstate will have to exit onto Hall of Fame Drive. In addition, all eastbound traffic on Kingston Pike will be directed onto southbound Alcoa Highway at Neyland Drive. This change should help alleviate the extensive gridlock along Cumberland Avenue.

Captain Catlett said, "The best advice to fans who will be attending the game is to arrive early. Motorists also need to slow down and pay close attention to pedestrians as well as our officers who will be directing traffic throughout the university and downtown areas."
