Outstanding City Employee 2007

At City Council Tuesday, Mayor Haslam honored city employees selected as honorable nominees for the Outstanding City Employee for 2007. The overall winner was Robin Shelton, a Financial Analyst from the Finance Department.

HONORABLE NOMINEES

Robin Shelton - Financial Analyst

Robin Shelton is a valued member of the Finance Department. An employee of over 21 years with the City, Robin has worked in all areas of Finance including Budget, Treasury, Purchasing, and now Accounting. She dedicates herself to the highest professional standards and serves as an example to everyone who works with her. Robin approaches her work with an attitude of quiet confidence to tackle the most challenging tasks with an unflappable calm. Armed with an impressive level of institutional knowledge as well as a comprehensive expertise in her field, she has undertaken the upgrading and coordination of the City's fixed assets system, including acquisition and reporting, and she has been given the detailed responsibility of unclaimed property reporting. Robin is able to see all tasks through to completion with skill and resourcefulness and she consistently seeks solutions that serve the City's best interests. She knows how to get things done, who to contact, and where to go for information or clarification. The caliber of her work always reflects her commitment to excellence. Robin sets high standards for herself and elevates the standards of everyone who is fortunate enough to work with her.

Tom Sparkes - Maintenance Crew Leader

Tom is a highly dedicated member of the Knoxville Police Department who can be depended on to get the job completed in a timely and efficient manner. He is responsible for nine police department facilities and is always working to improve these buildings for the employees and citizens. Tom reports to work early each day and is on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to respond to any situation where his skills are needed. Tom sets high standards for his personal performance and is an important contributor to the success of the police department. Tom displays a pleasant demeanor, is patient, and maintains a positive attitude in his position at all times.

Steve Still - Police Officer IV

Investigator Still is a moral, dedicated employee who goes above and beyond what is expected of him on a daily basis. Investigator Still mentors and teaches younger officers and is looked upon as a role model for his work on the job. Investigator Still has spent hours tracking down the victims of two serious cases this past year and helping them through the process of the legal system. Through many months of hard work, he was able to successfully secure a conviction for a very dangerous suspect involved in these crimes.

Allen Scarbrough - Public Service Worker II

Allen has been a faithful employee of the City of Knoxville's Horticulture department for 24 years. During his career, he has done everything from garbage removal in City parks, landscaping at public facilities, and cleaning office buildings. He has completed all of his assignments with the City with great pride and dignity. On many occasions he has come to work in the middle of the night during inclement weather to help out with tree and limb removal from City streets. During these times Allen has always worked until the job was finished. Allen is the lead worker on the right-of-way spraying crew and he trains all new hires how to complete the job safely, correctly, and in a timely manner. Allen is a model employee and a highly valued asset to the Public Service department
and the City as a whole.
