Posted: 08/30/2007
The City of Knoxville Parks and Recreation Division will host a free Youth Baseball and Softball Camp on Saturday, September 1, 2007 from 9 a.m. until noon in Caswell Park, 620 Winona St. The camp is for children ages 6-12 and they will have the opportunity to work on baseball and softball fundamentals with coaches and players from the University of Tennessee's softball and baseball teams.UT Softball Coaches Ralph and Karen Weekly, UT Baseball Coach Todd Raleigh and assistant baseball coaches Bradley LeCroy and Fred Corral will work with the camp participants teaching them the basic skills of the games.Several UT student-athletes will also work with the young players. "We've witnessed the positive impact of athletics on a child's life time and time again," said Sam Anderson, Senior Director of the City's Community and Neighborhood Services Department. "We wanted to offer a free camp so that children of all means would have the opportunity to participate. We applaud the University of Tennessee Athletics for getting on board with this effort." This is the third straight year that UT's coaches have teamed with the city's parks and recreation department to offer the free baseball and softball clinic. Registration forms may be turned in on the day of the clinic on September 1, 2007. For more information on this camp, please visit www.cityofknoxville.org or call 215-1418.
