Furniture Needed for Evacuees

Posted: 09/21/2005
The Compassion Coalition is urgently seeking donations for furniture and household items for Hurricane Katrina evacuees who are moving into housing in the Knoxville area.

The coalition is operating two warehouses. They are located at Cokesbury Center, 9915 Kingston Pike, and the old Hill's building, 4825 North Broadway, next to Big Lots. The Cokesbury Center is open Monday through Friday, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Saturday, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Broadway warehouse is open Monday through Saturday, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Volunteers will be at both locations to receive the furniture and make it available to those in need. (Household items only, no office furniture please.) Tax receipts for donations are available.

Please donate only items that are in pretty good shape.

The following good, used furniture items are needed immediately:
dressers
beds (everything but king size)
chests of drawers, dressers
appliances (no built-ins, and must be in good working order)
kitchen or dining room tables and chairs
living room sofas and chairs
lamps, coffee tables, end tables, and other furniture items to make a house a home.
